Being the Guy

Not the Man. That implies authority and possibly being part of some shadowy organization bent on something nefarious. Not my style.

Being the Guy however, I’m more than okay with lately.

I have many reasons that I feel like the guy.

Trouble is, I don’t want to talk about them here. More accurately, talking about them here doesn’t make sense anymore.

More and more, I realized that this little blog has run it’s course. Under this alias, using others for all the people in my life, this place made trying to make sense of the last 13 months easier.

Don’t get me wrong, not everything I wrote here I’m proud of, but at the time I wrote it, it served it’s purpose. It kept me thinking and it made me confront good and bad decisions, wise and foolish ideas.

This part of my training as a writer is over, even though I believe I’ll never be done learning how to write. That’s a different discussion, one for a blog where I tell folks my real name.

If you’ve come here since July of last year, be it by accident or as someone who knows me in real life, thanks. I hope that this insight into how my mind works and does not work sometimes has been interesting and amusing. Preferably in the “he’s kinda funny and smart” and less in the ‘he’s depriving a village somewhere of their idoit’ kind of way.

I’m going to set up in another little corner of the web (or two), so if you want to know more about that, drop me an email.

Beyond that, I’ll keep this blog up for the next few months while I back things up and transfer them to my laptop…

Thanks for letting me babble and ramble, bitch and discover.

And to quote the great George Carlin once said, “Farewell. Farewell to we meet again. Peace be with you. May the Forces of Evil become confused on the way to your house.”

Back out the Front Door

Yeah, seems like it’s been forever. But its only been 20 days. And 18 before that.

I’m scrambling at work-work to finish up so I can get out of here around 4. I’m on the road tonight, driving up to NY to see a good number of the Misfit Toys. We’re getting together at Fortunate Son’s house for a weekend of silly, geeky guy stuff. And drinking.

So, for a few days, I’ll live and relive memories with some of the best people in the world. We’ll laugh and talk shit about each other, our lives and our friends who aren’t there. I’ll get to tell them about all the incredible things that are happening to me and for me. Things, good blog reader, I know that I’ve kept from you. Not out of spite, but simply because I’m living them.

And on the ride back this Sunday morning, chugging coffee and second guessing my fantasy football roster, all the new things here will mingle with all the old and familiar there… and I’ll be reminded just how damned lucky I am in my life.

Something I haven’t done in a while

I mean, besides writing here…

Today, for the first time in years, I bought a physical newspaper.

I get most of my news via online newspapers and updates. Once in while I’ll watch a news special or a 24 news channel while in the airport. And of course, there’s my regular doses of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.

But, the irony of being a print journalism guy and having not read one is not lost on me.

Yet today, I wanted the physical copy. The tangible reminder of the historic event yesterday.

No matter what you think of Obama as a man or a candidate, he made history yesterday.

More importantly, we a nation made history yesterday.

So pick up a paper and tuck it away in your closet.  You’ll thank me in 20 years.

Then go online and do your research on the man. Make your own judgments when it comes to who to vote for this year.
